Our Priorities

Our current focuses, updated 2026

ADA-compliant access to the Garden City Village Hall front entrance

We aim for all residents to be able to safely use the front door of the Garden City Village Hall. As of right now, the only accessible entrance is in the rear; this extra distance places an unreasonable burden and further risk on those with already limited mobility. When the front entrance was renovated approximately six years ago, bringing it up to ADA regulation was deemed too costly. The MIC proposes that these needed improvements be completed Spring 2026. In response to this request, the Board of Trustees has applied for a New York State grant to fund the renovation that could push construction back months, instead of utilizing Capitol Funding for the requested timeline.

Increase the length of the Garden City Pool season into September

We would like the adult pool to be open through September so that seniors and those with limited mobility could continue exercise and relaxation at the pool for longer. Residents would pay an extra fee for the usage. Previously, the Rec kept the pool open for an additional week.

Create an Accessibility Guide to the Village Garden City

To ensure all residents know what spaces in the Village are accessible to seniors and those with limited mobility, we are working on reviewing and rating the ADA-compliance of businesses and public spaces.
